Tip Tuesday: How To Get Rid Of Spiders Naturally!

I don’t know about you but spiders make me run around my apartment screaming bloody murder. I actually feel bad for the people living around me sometimes. Today, we’re here to help you (and myself) deal with this phobia by sharing some helpful eco-friendly tricks to get rid of spiders in your house.

  • Use White vinegar to get rid of spiders

Although it doesn’t smell the best, white vinegar is a very effective way to get rid of spiders and keep them out of your home. Fill up a spray bottle (1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water) and spray the liquid in the cracks, corners, and crevices of your place.

  • Chestnuts

Placing a few chestnuts in the corners of you replace can drive away spiders. Weird right? The best places are on windowsills or along baseboards. Surprisingly, the chestnuts will prevent spiders from entering your home, so put them near doors and cracks that lead to outside. I’d say this is the best option, as they don’t smell.

  • Peels of citrus fruits

Spiders hate citrus. Plain and simple. So leave some peels in the cracks and corners of your home. The only downside to this is that as soon as these peels start to go bad they can leave a funky smell throughout your house. You’ve been warned.

  • Eucalyptus oil*

Eucalyptus is neat because you can get it in different forms. You can put some leaves in your drawers; you can put oil in the corners of your place, or just put some pieces of the stem in-between cushions of your furniture. It’s not a terrible smell either.

  • Peppermint oil*

Last but not least, peppermint oil can be mixed with water in a spray bottle and sprayed around your place. This not only smells nice, but will get rid of spiders as well. Spray more in places where spiders can enter your home to prevent them from even coming in at all.

*One thing to note is that essential oils can be used to fight many different insects. Different oils can be used to eliminate ants, cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes. Check out this link for more details about which oil fights which insect: http://www.essentialoilspedia.com/pest-control/
