Fourth of July Essentials

With Canada Day and the Fourth of July just around the corner, we thought it would be fun to put together some must-haves for the big day.

Now I don’t know about you but the first thing that came to my mind was clothing! Nothing screams your countries birthday more than repping that red, white, and blue! Usually stores like Old Navy will carry clothing and accessories to make sure you’re decked out on the big day. It doesn’t hurt to find a wacky hat either.

Second, what would these days be without alcohol! I came across this cocktail on Pinterest and thought it was really neat! First they had made star shaped ice cubes with a tray you can purchase at your local dollar store. Next you find a red drink that is high in sugar and a blue drink that doesn’t have sugar at all. In their recipe they use a cranberry juice and a blue Gatorade. The science behind this is that the drink with less sugar will rise about the drink with a lot of sugar creating a colour block! Next, as a woman I always love having my nails painted. Now what is more fun than painting them the colours of your country! You can mix it up too, if you want all red, then do them all red, or if you’re feeling flashy you can do a red, white, and blue pattern. Make sure you’re purchasing an eco-friendly polish like RGB (http://www.rgbcosmetics.com/), which is animal cruelty-free and vegan!

Lastly, after that big BBQ you’ve hosted I’m sure your guests will be looking for dessert. There are so many healthy red, white, and blue ideas out there that it was hard to pick one. My favourite though (and most simple) were popsicles! All you need are some blueberries, strawberries, and your choice of clear pop or juice such as ginger ale, sprite, or white grape juice. Freeze them up good, and voila! You have a nice refreshing treat for after dinner.

Don’t forget to enjoy the fireworks later in the evening and have yourself a wonderful Fourth of July or Canada Day!
