The Swift Life

BBQ Season is Among Us!

The weather is getting nicer, you find yourself outdoors a lot more, next thing you know you’ll be hosting a BBQ for all your friends. Unfortunately, a lot of BBQ foods are high in calories and fats, and if you’re not careful you can end up with a ton of waste at the end of the day by using plastic cups or paper plates.

Currently 80 percent of marine litter originates on land, and most of that is plastic. Over many years, this pollution has accumulated and affected our waterways and caused significant health concerns, not only for marine life, but for humans as well. Now this isn’t to say head home and throw out every piece of plastic you own, but start to slowly take steps by being more conscientious with future purchases. Below we’ve put together some eco-friendly ideas for your next big shindig!

Reusable cutlery, drinkware, and plates

Next time you’re out buying these products for your party, just go on and pass the plastic isle and spend a little bit more on reusable products. Sure it might take a little extra time to clean, but think of all the marine lives you’re saving with that extra 30 minutes.

Healthier marinades

When buying marinades for your BBQ goods, take a once over on the ingredient list. If MSG is listed, you may want to rethink using it. MSG as well as other artificial food additives are constantly under fire for their potentially harmful effects of your body. There are also lots of DIY options you can find on Pinterest if you’re up for the challenge!

Homemade sides

When it comes to the veggies or the mashed potatoes, don’t get lazy and purchase them pre made. Those products are usually loaded with unhealthy additives and preservatives. Besides being able to say you made everything from scratch just looks better on your part 😉

Is there any other ways you have reduced waste at your parties? Let us know in the comments below and happy BBQ’ing!
