An ode to Flint

America, must we now always ask
“how safe is our water?”
mothers and fathers
concerned for the health of
their sons and daughters
officials in Flint
so negligent
they could be charged with manslaughter

public outrage rapidly building over the deaths
and for those unprotected from the long term effects
of lead exposure
all these families want is closure
clean water to drink, and cook with and bathe
are we not in the land of the US of A
